Important information for Mrs. Kurinyj's 6th grade class:
The middle school grading policy is: 65% Formal/ 35% Informal.
Homework, as well as all other assignments, are due on the due date if you were present on the date it was assigned. It is expected to be on time and complete. At the beginning of class it is an expectation that all students will write down their homework assignment in his or her planner. Late work will be accepted (within the appropriate quarter) with the penalty of a lower grade. Work missed due to an absence needs to be made up and shown to me in order to receive full credit. This includes homework as well as all classwork.
All students are expected to have a composition or one subject spiral notebook for each quarter designated as their social studies notebook. Students may choose to use a 5 subject notebook if preferred. The majority of the work that we do will go into that notebook throughout the year. Students are expected to keep it neat, accurate and up to date. The notebook is their main source of study for quizzes and tests This notebook is also a good way for parents to keep up with what is going on in social studies. Our textbook is called World Civilizations. Students can access the text online when needed. We have hard copies of the text to check out if you do not have internet access.. Students will be given login information on the first day that we use it in class. It will not be our only resource but we will use it often. Students also need to have pencils, glue/tape, and colored pencils with them everyday. Please keep a check on supplies as they sometimes need to be replenished.
Every student is expected to have his/her chrome book with him/her at all times. We will use the chrome-books to access the online text for social studies, as well as Mastery Connect, Google Classroom, Vocabulary, and Brain Pop . Students should also have a reading book with them at all times. They should be reading in the morning during homeroom time, as well as when they have finished an assignment and are waiting to transition to the next task in class. This will help them with the quarterly reading projects they have to do in language arts class.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year with each child that I teach. If you need to contact me for any reason please email me at [email protected] .
